I became chapter director for Denver after my first shoot as a photographer for Flashes of Hope. It was a confluence of events and experiences at that time in my life that coincided with Denver's need for a chapter director. I had downsized my business as I choose to be home with my twin toddlers, one of whom had been recently diagnosed with autism and developmental disability. We'd spend a lot of time around Children's Hospital; it was impossible to ignore that there were families struggling with more than ours. At the same time, a family friend lost her four year old only child to a fast moving brain tumor, a high school friend passed away after a four year battle with colon cancer, leaving behind three young children….I was unknowingly needing a way to cope and give back as all these events coincided to enlarge my compassion. That same fall, I was asked to do a shoot in a private home for a family with a terminally ill daughter. It was an amazing, challenging, heart wrenching, uplifting, fun, life-affirming few hours.

I love organizing and attending each shoot. The caliber of photography is just amazing but moreover, the families are so very appreciative and inspiring! Each month, I stand in awe of the resilience of humans and the abilities of the medical world.

In memory of sweet, beautiful, Sydney, I continue.
