Several years ago I lost my husband to kidney cancer. Those that helped me while he was I'll were very inspiring. I wanted to help back in some way. When I saw Allison talk about Flashes of Hope on the Today Show I thought "this would be a perfect program for our children's hospital and I could help get it started". Everyone at Flashes were great In guiding me along. I found a fabulous photographer who agreed to do the first shoot and also connected me with several other photographers.
Seeing the kids and families have so much fun at that first shoot made me know, without a doubt, that I wanted to continue doing this for a very long time. That was in 2007.

There have been so many photo shoot moments that have touched my heart. The mom gently kissing her little boy as he lay in his hospital bed because he was too sick to leave the room but wanted his picture taken. The little girl dressed in a tutu, sitting on the floor with her little toes showing thru the netting, a huge smile on her face. The teenager who told me this is the first time I felt pretty. The dad who shaved his head with his son going thru chem. The young boy who lost his eye to cancer. The teenage girl who sold her handmade brackets to the staff to raise money for research. I could go on and on. It is a slide show of memories as I reflect on all the kids.

One teenage boy was a wonderful musician who made a CD. I met him at a camp. He told me music is what gives him strength to endure. I could hear his strength in his music.

I love every aspect of working with Flashes. The 3 things at the top of my list are the fun the families have at the shoot, the gratitude the parents express and the money we raise for research so that perhaps one day we will have a cure.
