Children with cancer are smiling today at a Flashes of Hope shoots. Our dedicated volunteer chapter directors coordinate photo shoots within the nation's top hospitals and at special events for children with cancer. Whether photographing one child isolated in a bone marrow unit or a hundred kids having fun at summer camp, it's an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Nancy began the Triangle Chapter at UNC Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC in May, 2007 with her long-time friend Kim Conard. The two ladies have been friends for years and decided together to find an opportunity with which they could utilize their "different, but complementary" skill sets to help others in the community. Flashes of Hope has provided them the opportunity to put their hearts and minds into something bigger than themselves and makes them a part of a WONDERFUL monthly events at both UNC Hospitals & Duke Childrens Hospital.
Nancy works as the Business Development Specialist for Perkins+Will, a nationally recognized Architectural Practice with a specialty in Healthcare Facility Planning & Design. Perkins+Will is very proud and supportive of her activities with Flashes Of Hope.
Nancy and Kim took over the coordination of the Victory Junction Gang Camp Shoots in 2011 after supporting the efforts of good friend & Charlotte Chapter Director Bev Neely Bruce for several years and learning from her shining example.
Kim and her long time friend Nancy Padgett started the Triangle Chapter at UNC Childrens Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC in May, 2007. She wanted to bring the chapter to UNC because she witnessed first hand the compassion and respect of the hospital staff during her nephews frequent visits. Kim has worked with Davis Kane Architects as the office manager for the past 12 years. In addition to Flashes of Hope, she also volunteers her time with Make-A-Wish as a wish grantor. She graduated from West Virginia University with a BA in International Studies.
Nancy Padgett serves at the Co-Director. She works as the Director of Marketing and Business Development for PWI Consulting Engineers, an MEP Consulting Design firm. PWI has designed both renovations and new additions for UNC Health Care over the last 10 years. Nancy is a North Carolina native who has lived and worked in the Triangle for over 6 years after her return from a 10 year residence in Baltimore, MD.
The children often request to be photographed with special friends – in this case a stuffed bunny. Children are also photographed with parents, siblings, hospital staff and even fellow patients. This sweet image was captured at All Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
