Kick-It Raises More Than $5000

Kick It for Children's Cancer was recently held in Bicentennial Park in Minerva, with eight teams competing in the sport of kickball.

The fun, family-oriented event raised $5,114 for the fight against children's cancer.

Teams participating included Absolute Hillbillies, Team Colfor, Team Garrett, The Balled and the Beautiful, Team Frontier, Team Swagg, Lady Lions Softball and Kickin It Old School.

At the end of the 17 games, Team Garrott took home the 2012 Kick It Championship Trophy.

Lola Lucas, chairperson of the event, was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Minerva community.

"I want to thank all the volunteers and everyone who came out to play kickball and helped in raising money towards finding a cure for childhood cancer."

Lucas went on to give thanks to Taylor Wright, who won the 50/50 drawing and generously donated the winnings back, and to Trey Weber, for holding his 12th birthday party at the event.
