NDCL Students Go Bald for Pediatric Cancer

April 29, 2013  |  Posted by Monica Volante

CHARDON, Ohio — Nearly 40 seniors at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin shaved their heads for pediatric cancer Monday.

This was the 2nd year in a row NDCL raised money for the “Kick-It for Cancer” fundraiser. The “Kick-It” organization benefits children’s cancer research across the country.

Today, students dubbed the event “Kick Bald,” shaving their heads to raise money for the organization.

Senior Steven Takacs raised $6,000 on his own.

“I asked my mom if I would be able to do it. She said that if I raised $5,000, she would let me do it. So, wrote down $5,000. I wrote a letter talking about a close childhood friend of mine who had died from pediatric cancer, sent out about 200 copies of the letter, drove around to local businesses, friends, family, contacted in all about 300 people, and I was able to raise $6,000 for the ‘Kick Bald’ initiative.”

“We’re kicking it for four people here in our school community that have been affected by cancer. Their personal touch has certainly made a huge impact in our school,” said Teacher Douglas Murray.

Last year, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin raised about $7,000. This year, teachers expect students to surpass the $20,000 mark.
