Allison and her husband Kip founded Flashes of Hope during their son's first treatment for cancer. The first shoot was held in August of 2001in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to founding Flashes of Hope, she was a Senior Account Executive at Imagio/J.Walter Thompson in Seattle. She began her career in television as a producer for the NBC affiliate in Cleveland and then as an on-air reporter for the ABC station. Allison also appeared in national commercials and print campaigns as a model. She graduated with honors from Boston College on a full athletic scholarship and was named an Academic All-American.

As Director of Operations for Kaleidoscope, a 35-person design firm she founded with her husband in 1989, Lisa brings a wealth of entrepreneurial experience to the Flashes of Hope team. Working with customers such as Procter & Gamble, Rubbermaid, and Moen, she designed and executed the firm's strategic marketing plans, including tradeshow and special events planning. After selling Kaleidoscope in 2004, Lisa worked in Retail Marketing for Stark Enterprises, a regional developer of mixed-use properties. Lisa graduated with honors from The Cleveland Institute of Art with a BFA in Photography. She is an avid supporter of Therapy Dogs International.

Cathy Welcsh

Cathy began at Flashes of Hope in 2010, following our first kickball game, to take the lead on the Kick-It Program, raising money for pediatric cancer research. Since then, she has grown the program to include school, community and corporate competitions, nationwide, as well as developed a platform for individual athletes to fundraise for a cure. She has forged corporate and non-profit partnerships, most recently with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, to fund over $6 million in critically needed research. Cathy brings her passion for athletics and her professional background in sales and customer relations to engage community members, particularly youth, in philanthropy. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin Wallace College.

Mary Selhorst

Mary Selhorst joins us in Development after years of non-profit volunteer work on fundraising, event planning and strategic planning at the Board level. She spent 15 years in commercial lending and division management and several years teaching business and accounting classes at a local college. She has a B.A. from the College of Wooster and an MBA from Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University.

Utilizing her extensive experience with volunteer management and programming, Karen joined the Flashes of Hope/Kick-It team in 2012 to run the school program in Northeast Ohio. She currently serves as the Program Director of the photography program. Most recently, she was a program director for The Littlest Heroes, a children's cancer charity. Karen began her career in marketing at Dawn Food Products after graduating from Miami University with a business degree. She serves as a Guardian Ad Litem for CASA for Kids and teaches Sunday school.

Nina Sheffler

Nina joined Flashes of Hope in 2013 having previously worked as an Account Executive for an international advertising firm. She has broad experience in the non-profit world as a volunteer and board member; fundraising, marketing, event planning and engaging donors. At Flashes of Hope, Nina is responsible for sponsorship, recruiting business support and overseeing procurement of silent and live auction items for our keystone fundraising events in Cleveland. Nina received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Lynchburg and is a passionate volunteer for Refugee Response.

As Studio Manager, Allana is responsible for overseeing the photographers, photo shoots and the processing and delivery of each family’s unique portrait package. She also maintains Flashes of Hope’s consistent photo aesthetic across all of our 44 national chapters. With a B.S. from Kent State University in Photo Illustration and Visual Communications and Design, Allana brings her love of photography and her experience as a freelance portrait artist to her work with our professional photographers and families.

Lisa Mortimer

Lisa is responsible for developing, managing and securing funding for our Happy Pack Program in our 44 national chapters. She brings a background in direct service with children and families in crisis and in developing social-emotional programing for schools, as well as, broad experience in non-profit management. Lisa graduated with honors from Bucknell University and received a Master of Science in Service Administration from Case Western Reserve University. She serves as a Trustee for a local independent school.

Amy Ciano

Amy joins Flashes of Hope after an extensive career in finance, most recently as Director for KeyBanc Capital Markets, developing new investment banking business. She also has been very active fundraising and chairing events for local non-profits. Amy combines her business connections and strong background in client stewardship with her experience in event planning, to grow support for our major fundraising events in Cleveland. She graduated from Denison University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. She continues to volunteer and be active in local clubs.
