I first heard about Flashes of Hope when a co-worker's niece's image was featured in Parade magazine. I was immediately struck how Flashes of Hope provides an invaluable gift to children and families, one of documenting a special child just as they are.

So together with my good friend, Amy Spelman we decided to start a Chapter in Houston at Texas Children's Hospital. We knew that together we could make just about anything happen.

I am thrilled to say that almost five years later we have photographed hundreds of kids, seen hundreds of kids smile, and hopefully helped make some happy memories for all of the kids, the hospital staff we work with and our amazing volunteers.

I am passionate about photography. I love how 1/60th of a second has the opportunity to freeze time and capture a moment in time and sometimes, just sometimes capture the authentic character of a child. As a parent, photography gives me that extra opportunity to remember my children just as they are at that moment.

My involvement in Flashes of Hope allows me to help other parents have that same opportunity. All the kids we shoot are special. The all have their own unique circumstances but they are special because they are kids and Flashes of Hope does an amazing job of celebrating the child in that moment.

The mission of Flashes of Hope has brought together some incredibly generous and talented people. In Houston we are so fortunate to work with the best in the business. Our stylists have worked with Presidents of The United States and our photographers have worked with top CEOs and personalities across many fields. We also work with some very dedicated volunteers to keep all of the images on a fast track to the families. All of us come together with Flashes of Hope to honor the children and families we photograph and it is such a personal joy for me to engage with these giving people.
