I first learned of Flashes of Hope in 2006, when a family member of ours had his pictures taken at a local hospital. The photographs were stunning; showing how brave he was throughout treatment. I started reading more about Flashes of Hope, and was amazed by the breathtaking photographs being taken of children with life-threatening diseases. I thought that one day I would like to get involved, but didn't know when or how.

Then a few years later, my husband and I were told the words no parent wants to hear: Your child has Cancer. Throughout this journey with my daughter, we were in the hospital very frequently for over a year. During these appointments, we never waited in the waiting room. The ONE time we did, a beautiful bald boy entered the waiting room. By chance, he overheard me reading my daughter the sign telling patients that Flashes of Hope would be photographing children at that hospital the following week. I was excited for my daughter to have her pictures taken. I knew I would treasure them. The boy proudly told me, "My mom started Flashes of Hope." After realizing the founder of Flashes was right there, I complimented her organization. We spoke briefly about it but the subject quickly changed. That day we were just two Cancer moms with so much in common. We became instant friends; as did our children- who after thirty minutes were back getting treatment together- in the same room! They have been close ever since.

From that very day, I knew I was destined to give my time and my heart to Flashes of Hope. I am so proud to be a part of this organization as one of the Chapter Directors for Michigan. I am eternally grateful for their dedication to photographing every child with Cancer, as well as their dedication and funding of Pediatric Cancer research.
